I am beginning work on the windshield wiper control and knob for my 54 and have a general question here. I removed the knob from the wiper control. The knob as many may know is a knob with a push button in the center - coming out of the back of the knob is an approximately 4" length of steel rod that goes into the wiper control. Now with the knob removed I attemped to push with windshield washer button to see if the rod moved inside of the knob but it does not.
My question is - is the little steel rod that runs within the wiper knob fixed or is it somehow spring loaded and mine is frozen or locked up inside the wiper knob itself. Have soaked this in WD-40 and it is still locked up. Any suggestions before I try and free up something that is not even broken?
Are the washer controls easly serviced? I know I can send this out for rebuild but if I can tackle this with some good advice from others who have been through this it would be appreciated.
