Does anyone know if Noland's 53 sold at auction at the Russo and Steele auction today? If so, for how much? If not, what was it bid to and what was the reserve? Just curious.

Henry,
I watched it on the internet and it was bid to $390K which did not meet the reserve. The announcer said it would take $500K to buy it. It is a beautiful car and an important piece of history and is owned by a true gentleman. The car has earned Duntov and Bloomington Gold recognition along with many other honors.

I just received an email from Russo Steele saying that the 53 was sold, I saw the video too and it must have sold after it crossed the block. The sale price was around 450K.- Top

Re: Noland Adams - 53 Corvette at Auction - Russo and Steele
i spoke to the owner at length about the car but did not get his name. He was a nice gentleman and Russo Steele gave him very prominent floor space in the staging area. a significant amount of memorabilia was included in the car including some of the USPS momentos given to Mr. Adams when he helped design the Corvette postage stamp.
i think asking $500K for the car is a bit much, in my humble opinion. I saw the 5th Corvette ever made sell at RM Auctions for $405,000 (excluding seller's commission). here is a link to the car.
it was a very nice example, and arguably equally or even more important than the Noland Adams car (no offense intended to Mr. Adams).
On the other hand, the seller had a $500K reserve on the car for a reason -- perhaps he paid a boatload for the car to begin with and had to recoup his investment. i believe he lived in AZ, so bringing the car home was not a major expense. and when you see how much L88's go for at auction ($450K to $650K), perhaps he was right to set a high price and stick to his guns.- Top
