    Z Dimension Adjustment on '69

Sorry, the title should be D dimension. I'm in the final phases of getting the rear susp back together on my '69 (Thanks to everyone on the board for the help!). I measured my D dimension, which for an L71 shipping should be 2.5". Mine is a full inch higher. I reused my original rear spring and rebuilt it and put in all new rubber bushings etc. and also replaced the spring to trailing arm bolts (they do line up with the originals pretty well). I do not have my spare or spare carrier in and only have 1 vs. two gallons of gas in it but I wouldn't think either would make a big difference. Questions:
    - Will it eventually settle down some by driving?
    - How much difference does tighting up on the castle nut make? The repro castle nut "slits" for the cotter pin are not as wide and the bolt hole is not as wide either making getting the pin in difficult s it's hard to say of I have exactly where it shpould be.
    - When adjusting the spring bolts should I loosen the spring to carrier bolts first and is it better to make the adjustments with weight on or off the rear suspension?

    Thanks,
    Jack

Jack once the car is driven the rear suspension will settle.

        Hi Jack,
When I was putting my 71 back together I was very concerned with the final ride height. I had used all the original components and fasteners.
In the end I found that things like the battery, amount of gas, spare tire, and mufflers/exhaust pipes, do affect the ride height at a rate of about 100 lbs equals 1/4''.
        Regards,
        Alan

          Jack -

There are no adjustments for ride height; you just assemble it and run the nuts down on the ends of the link bolts until the cotter pin hole is exposed, and insert the cotter pins. It will settle somewhat when you get some miles on it. Leave the spring-to-carrier bolts alone.

Thanks everyone. I will roll with it as is and move on to the front suspension
