    C2 Door gap adjustment

Attached (hopefully) are some pictures of the door gaps on my 66 convertible. The archives has lots of information about adjusting the door within the door opening to get the gaps even. I have a different issue.

The door gaps on the driver side are tight. The door gaps on the passenger side are wide. I might be able to adjust the pass side to 1/4" gaps front and rear.
It looks to me like the rear section is "askew" from the centerline, ie, the rear is bent to the left of center. Since the rear section is attached solid it looks to me like no amount of adjustment at the body mounts is going to reduce the door opening on the passenger side and increase the door opening on the driver side. Am I correct? Is there any adjustment that will reduce the width of the door opening?

FYI This summer the body was professionally removed from the frame to replace a leaking fuel line. At that time #4 rear body mounts were repaired because the holes we enlarged due to rust caused by water trapped in the rubber "donut's". The mounts were not moved, just a plate added to provide correct size holes.

The door gaps were not great before the body was lifted but they seem to be more noticable now.

In summation is there a way to adjust the rear section to reduce the total door opening on the passenger side?

      Randy,

I agree with Edward, gotta show the complete line for any objective opinion.

        Randy,

We need a picture of the complete door, including the style line.

Do I understand correctly that a plate was placed on body mount pad? Was this on the top or the bottom. In other words, is it acting like a shim?

I think Paul is right on it. Something changed on the body mount pad when the reinforcement plates were added.

If the gaps are nearly correct at the bottom but way off at the top, that would confirm it.

            Guys,
Thanks for your input. This will be a 2 part reply as I am limited by number of photo attachments. The #4 body mounts were repaired so that they would be flush, same as original no shim effect. I am enclosing a shot of before the body went on and the #4 body mounts look ok. I cannot figure out how to save a zoom in of the body mount

              Part 2

As I said before the door gaps were far from perfect before the body off, just more noticable now. The driver door is fairly tight and even. Too close at the rear almost chipping paint.

The pass side is about 3/8" at the top and 3/16" at the bottom of the rear opening. The passenger front opening is fairly even.
Adding shims to #4 on the pass side might even out the gap to 1/4" parallel but I see no way to reduce the gap width.

As I said in the first post, it seems the correct action is to "twist" the rear section relative to the middle but it is one piece. The only adjustments I see are shims at the body mounts and that will not increase the gaps on the driver side or reduce the gaps on the driver side.

                Randy,

You need to add shims on the body mount on the right side. That will lift the rear 1/4 section and close up the gap at the top of the door/1/4 panel.

You may need to remove a few shims on the other side.

                  Randy,

I agree with Michael, shims at the passenger #4 mount should even the door gap at the rear. After that, you may consider trying to even the gap front to rear on this passenger door by moving the door rearward then post more pics for opinions. When you post pics, show the A pillar gap by the windshield post as it's important it's even.

On the drivers side, removing a shim at #4 should open the gap at the door rear top. If there are no shims to remove, consider adding one shim to all drivers side mounts except #4 to accomplish the same thing.
