    Halo Panel Screws for 66

Are the correct halo panel screws a one piece screw with washer built in, or are they a screw that recesses into a separate captured washer?

My 66 and my father's 66 both have screws in the halo panel that are one piece with a washer as part of the casting. I am sure his car has been apart many times, but my car, as far as the rear compartment interior was concerned, did not look like it had ever been apart or molested. Therefore, that is why i am questioning the NCRS judging manual on the description for the halo panel screws. It states they should be two piece with the washer separate and the screw recessed into the washer. I did not have may of these screws with my car, except for the carpeted kick panels.

    Opinions???

    Thanks!

The correct screws for the halo panel are a chrome phillips oval head with stainless steel or chrome escussions. Check Long Island if you want a picture of them.

So definitely not the screw with the cast in washer???? I could have sworn, drawing my own conclusions, that the type of screw i have installed was/is correct for my 66, but that perhaps earlier, 63-65 cars used the other type of screw with the separate captured stainless washer.

Ill try to post some pictures in a bit. Describing these screws can get confusing.

        Christopher,

The 1966 AIM describes the separate Halo panel screws (GM 9417987) and trim washers (GM 140270) on UPC 1ASM-F20. The screw is a chrome Phillips oval head, same GM part number used at this location for 1965-1967, and possibly 1964. The trim washers are the same as the trim washers used on your sunshades/sun visors, this same GM part number was used at the Halo panel location for 1963-1967.

        So, two separate pieces.

For a comparison screw, the 1966 AIM shows the same GM 9417987 screws that should be in your Halo panel are also used in 1966 on your kick panels, at the top middle and bottom middle locations only (UPC 1ASM-E1, Item 9). The other kick panel screws should be GM 4751359, those are the chrome Phillips head screws with the "washer face", i.e., the head is widened similar to the radio side panel screws, and has a loosely attached flat washer under the head.

As Russ mentioned, LIC has a picture of the Halo panel screws and trim washers, LIC #44-05. For a picture of the unique washer-face screws with attached washers used for the majority of the kick panel fasteners, see LIC 12-33C. That is the 1967 "kit". The 1966 "kit" is 44-13B, but it may confuse things, because they are showing funnel-type washers being used with the GM 9417987 screws. I suspect they (LIC) are using those funnel-type washers as a substitute for the eyelets or "ferrules" that should already be in your original kick panels.
