These look like they could be the same washers used on some small block exhaust manifold bolts.

Thanks everyone, especially Sal and Kevin for the pictures and the understanding of what the bolt and washer combination should be. Terry, what does the 'LP' stamp signify? My manifold is stamped IC.

I was afraid and at the same time hoping someone would ask. Thank you Les. The short answer is that I am not 100% sure --- BUT

On one of my trips through Flint Engine Assembly I was told each person who hot fired the engine, balanced and set the distributor timing had their own distinctive stamp in the form of a hammer. After making all those adjustments, making the index mark for distributor setting, verifying no unusual noises and adequate oil pressure they wacked the intake with that hammer stamp. In the event of warrantee issues involving their work each engine could be traced back to the final tester.

While I was there somewhat after our engines were built the “tour guide” said they had been doing that since 1955. I doubt that person had been there that long – they were not that old, but it makes a good story.

Seems to me we are seeing that persons initials in these cases. I have seen some unintelligible symbols used also.
