    65 trip odometer issue

When resetting the trip odometer I push in and turn the knob clockwise . The numbers turn to align until all 9s are shown and then progresses in reverse order until it gets to all 1s. The trip odometer stops at this point. Let me also say that as I turn the knob it gets more difficult until it feels like the gear is skipping .
I can not get it to turn the last flip to 000.

I am taking the car to Kissimmee and need to correct it ASAP

Can anyone tell me what is causing the problem?

    Bob,

It is a combination of cable twist and 40 year old number assembly. The numbers eventually get harder to turn and combined with the twists and turns in the cable they pop past the 000 back to 111.

You might try taking the cable out, cleaning it and lightly lube. Other than that, you will have to replace the number set which are available from any big package house. Might as well replace the number set for the Odometer while your in there.

Sorry that I didn't have any good news but the cable trick might work. Check the routing of the cable and make sure it not kinked.

      Joe

I will clean & lube the cable. I will let you know the results ASAP. I hope I will not have to change the numbers. It's just such a pain to pull the cluster.

      Thanks

      Bob
