    74 air dam replacement

I am trying to replace the damaged air dam on a 74 big block A/C car. In addition to the plastic aid dam, there is also a rubber piece of about 1 inch that extends down across the whole air dam. It looks to be rivited on.

Question. What is the best way to replace the air dam and the rubber extension with rivets?

I do not see these parts available as replacements.

Was this unique to the 74? Any other comments appreciated. thanks
    Bruce

    Re: 74 air dam replacement

Bruce...I just went through this procedure on my '73 with LS4 and C60 options. See post titled; '73 Lower Rubber Air Dam w/rivets.

There are no repos out there and NOS parts are long gone. I had to fabricate my additional rubber flap with rivets myself along with a co-member of our Chapter. It wasn't too difficult as I had a lot of help from other board members with pics and measurments.

Bruce, not sure the "private message" is working for me with the new format. So here goes again.

Yes I did replace the plastic air dam several years prior when I purchased the car as it was already broken in half.

The most difficult part was finding the materials. The metal brackets, rivets and paint I got from Home Depot and needed to cut for size the metal bar for the two brackets. The rubber came from Denver Rubber Company who supplies airports with large rubber strips for their rubber conveyor belts that moves luggage. All the materials probably cost about $50 with the rubber being the most at $25. I had to buy a Rivet Gun which was just under $20 also at Home Depot.

It took two of us most of the day to make and about an hour and half to reistall back onto the car.
