    66 A/C Fan Motor

I tried changing the title but could not, so I had to repost .

You guys were so good at recommending people to rebuild a wiper motor on a previous post, so I was hoping you might oblige me on a blower motor. I ran this question once before a while back, but didn't get anywhere with it .So I thought I would try one more time .

It is off a 66 , and as far as I know it works now . However it is an original, off my A/C car, so one can assume that it has been used a lot, and now that it is out , it would be the perfect time to R&R it . The problems are, (a) it is a sealed unit (welded together) so it won't come apart easily and that eliminates me from doing it, and (b) as you already know, is replaceable with a new GM unit , however they do not look the same .

So before I put it back into the restored body I would like to know it has new brushes etc.etc. and will continue to work for a long time !Your help is always appreciated !

    Jim,

I'm in the same situation, except with an original '67 A/C blower motor that needs to be rebuilt. I called Classic Auto a while back, they said they will take it apart and clean everything up, put it back together (and re-weld), but if the brushes or other parts are too worn, there's nothing they could do without replacement parts, which they don't have. I didn't think to ask at the time, but I'm wondering if the internal parts from a newer (and easier to find) NOS unit could be cannibalized for parts if necessary?

And if so, which blower motors would be applicable as parts donors?

It would seem reasonable to assume that this motor was used in a number of '60s vintage GM cars. Test it, if it works, install it and pray that Murphy does not invoke his law. Take solace in the fact that it is NOT hard to get to - and the desert climate makes storage not a problem for the replacements....

        Hey Loren,

I hear what you are saying.

It is just so hard to put a "used 46 yr old electric motor" back in a car when one has restored , replaced and rehabed everything else on it ! Especially when it is now sitting on my kitchen counter and not in the car !

Hope to see you Sunday ,

        Jim
