    69 Tri Power Fuel Lines

    Hi,
Sorry, i had this in the wrong forum.

I'm about to put some new "original style" fuel lines (not SS) on my 69 427 Tri power, to replace braided lines put on by a previous owner. I was wondering if there are any tradesman's tricks to this job to make sure there are no leaks an the lines to the pump are routed correctly.

I have all the manuals, AIM and also Holley books and have been unable to find any diagrams showing lines to the pump.

    Thanks for any help

From my 68. I hope this helps. I did not use any teflon tape in the installation of the lines. The tape may cause a deduct if you consider having your car judged.

The best advice I had from this group was to torque the line, back it off and torque down a second time to flare the ends of the metal line to the fitting so it will seat properly. When i did this on my 3X2 lines, also not SS, you could "feel" the line give a tiny bit as it seated.

My first tip would be to inspect all the fuel lines at the flared ends and then the brass block for any imperfections before assembly.

Then I would build up the blocks and lines off the car but still have the fittings end loose just finger tight. Install the lines and block to the carburetors.

Then to tighten the lines I would use and angle wrench to hold and stabilize the brass block because the lack of space for a standard wrench.

But to tighten the lines use a quality line wrench you have less chance of marring the fittings and will have a more secure fit to the fitting and a more accurate torque at the fitting.

Also the use of an angle wrench is very helpful at the carburetor inlet fitting to prevent over tightening and possible damage to the internal threads of the fitting.

            Hi Jack,

I ran into a few problems getting the old line off the pump, however perseverance paid off. The other problem i have is the the fuel lines to the inlet flange will not fit or go past the first thread. Is this a common problem with reproduction lines? Do i need to file the outer part of the flange to make it fit?

I bought them from Ecklers! Also do the blocks (with, it looks like Eaton stamped on it) go in a particular order? If i look at your pics the one stamped with Eaton is at the front. Also, do the small pipes from block to carby fit in any particular way? It looks like the shorter part of the pipe (after the bend) is closest to the inlet flange.

Sorry for all the questions and once again appreciate the help.

            Cheers Grahame

              Grahame:

The fittings do not require any sealant or tape. The seat is made by the flare against the machined surface in the brass block. However, I would recommend using a VERY SMALL amount of anti-seize on the threads. This will help everything to go together more easily and will also help the to get a better/more secure seal. Then simply wipe off any excess after tightening.

Many folks have recommended/suggested this in the past. It does work.
