Help identify what this document is part of

    2012_01_09_18_07_390001.jpg2012_01_09_18_07_390002.jpg

I found this torn piece of document in the glove box of my Vette. Can anyone help me determine what this piece of document might be? I'm thinking is has something to do with the sale of the vehicle.

It appears to be part of the original PURCHASE AGREEMENT from the selling dealer FELIX CHEVROLET for 66 coupe vin #15197. Is that your car? They are still in business. If you order the NCRS Shipping document, it will confirm. DO YOU HAVE THE ORIGINAL PROTECTO PLATE

Yes James, my father and I are the 4th and 6th owner of this wonderful Vette. I've already been in contact with Felix and they weren't interested in helping (other than putting a new one in the garage). I am axiously awaiting the delivery of the NCRS Shipping document. I do not have the Protect-O-Plate, Dealer Invoice or Build Sheet on the car. I am back tracking through the insurance cards and registrations trying to find any of all historical facts about its life.

Not sure but, in NC, when the car is purchased, you pay the title fees, registration fees, license fee, & sales tax at the time of purchase. The form you have is similar to that in NC. The dealer would send the info and check to the DMV office whereas, when it is processed by DMV, the license plate is sent to the dealer, who then sends it by mail to the new owner. The notice you have is probably just a notice that if you haven't received the license plate and registration car from the dealer within 10 days to contact the dealer to obtain the plate. I've had it happen to me where someone in the office at the dealership misplaced my tag and when I notified yhem they sent it next day. As you may know, a temporary plate (good for 10-30 days, depending on the state) is generally issued for use until the perm. one arrives. You have a great pc of info there with the selling dealer's name and dealer # on it along with the Vin#.

Yes, it's part of the "temporary registration" paperwork that comes with all new cars in California, even to this day (although the actual paperwork is, of course, different nowadays).

Also, note the evidence of scotch tape on the edges of the document. This was used to affix this "temporary registration tag" to the inside of the lower left side of the windshield. In the old days, this was affixed in a way that anyone could read the name and address of the registered owner. That changed later so that the certificate was "folded over" to hide the registered owner's information.

I don't think that Felix is still owned by the same folks that owned it when your car was originally sold there. Even if it was, the chances that they would still have any original records or paperwork from that period would be about as close to ZERO as could be.

I also agree that a dealer still having paper work 40 years later is almost 0. Knowing my dealer from NCRS , I actually talked with a woman in the office who worked for the old owner, and she indicated that the dealer by law, only had to keep records for 6 years. (Florida). The moment the 6 years pasted, they dumped the records out, to make room for the new years files. There was no thought that these records would ever have value , they just took up space
