I sent numerous items out to a local machine shop to have them "hot tanked" for cleaning. The torque converter/flex plate inspection pan for my 67 powerglide was damaged too much to use. I've tried the usual used parts businesses with no success. Anyone have one or know where to locate one? TIA Al

Re: Damaged Torque Conv Inspection pan
Anyone know of any old bone yards still in business with chevys from the early 60s? All the ones I knew of in eastern NC are no longer in business. The EPA closed most of them after Hurricane Floyd flooded eastern NC and had them crushed and hauled off.- Top

Re: Damaged Torque Conv Inspection pan
There should still be plenty of these underpans around. They were used for most 1962-68 passenger cars and light trucks with Powerglide. They are by no means a Corvette-unique item.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Damaged Torque Conv Inspection pan
Hi Paul, wasn't aware of Martin's. Would they be listed in the zebulon exchange? The recycler you saw at LQK will not allow anyone to purchase parts- I've asked before on another project. Who is Joker Tilton? E-mail me at a.p.rains@att.net or PM me Thanks, Al- Top

Re: Damaged Torque Conv Inspection pan
You said it was damaged by the machine shop but you didn't say to what extent it was damaged. There are quite a few variations of these underpans, some only subtly different. Plus, I have no way of knowing if the one you have now is even correct. So, I posted these photos so that you could see what a complete, undamaged part of the correct part number looks like to assist you in identifying and finding a correct replacement. That's why I took the time to take and post several photos. Based upon your response, I take it that you think I did this for some mean-spirited or self-serving purpose. So, I'll have to make sure I don't offer this kind of help again. Also, as I mentioned previously, this is anything but a rare part so why on earth would I want to "tease you" or "gloat" that I have one?In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Damaged Torque Conv Inspection pan
Joe, I guess I owe you an apology on this. I didn't say you were teasing or gloating, but apparently others must have thought so. I just mis-interpreted you intentions on this as you were not clear as to why you were posting them. But, if I may be bold enough to ask, assuming you accept my sincere apology, what subtle differences should I be looking for for a 67? Thanks, Al- Top

There were at least 4 part numbers for these Powerglide underpans and I think there were probably several more. Just what the exact differences are I do not know but I'm very confident that the differences were minor. All I can say for sure is that the one that is correct for your application should appear exactly as the one I pictured. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Damaged Torque Conv Inspection pan
In my opinion, those underpans are way over-priced. As I mentioned, this is not a rare part. There were probably MILLIONS of these originally manufactured and used on cars. Yes, a lot of them are probably scrapped by now since they were last used on a car in the late 60's. Nevertheless, there should be an ample supply remaining and, likely, very little demand for those that do remain. These things do not usually wear out.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
