    What approximate date would define a late production 1966 Coupe?

    Jeremy,

    Late production is an often misused term. To use it correctly, it has to be applied on a part by part basis. Unless of course, your car was built on the last day of 1966 production! Why do you ask?

      I'm by no means an expert, but one of the ways I consider my 66 a "late" production is the seat belts. THe First Design seat belts were used in 65 and early 66 cars through approximately vin 14000. The Second Design late 66-67 belts started approximately 16200. This per the 66 TIM & JG. The ones between 14000 and 16200 may have been either as there was no exact cutover.

      But that is basing it on a single part, i.e. seat belts. As Joe mentioned it sort of is on a part by part basis.

      I have a 1960 and I think it is commonly accepted that the early 60 and late 60 is defined by when the VIN tag was moved from the driver side door hing pillar to the steering column. My 60, which is early is about half 59 considering the number of 59 versus 60 parts are on it.

        The approximate build date of my 66 is February 28, 1966. At some point in it's history the factory seat belts were replaced with a racing harness (which I understand is not factory).

        I'm hoping to find OEM belts and from what I've read, in late 66 production the paddle release was replaced with the push button release.

          As noted in your '66 Judging Guide, cars up to #14,000 had the paddle buckles, cars between 14,000 and 16,200 could have either the paddle or pushbutton buckles, and cars after 16,200 had the pushbutton buckles.

            Jeremy,
            The other thing to consider is the color of your interior. If black than the guidance John posted is about the best NCRS has at present.

            Now my comment is based upon seat belt changes in the 63/64 style. It appears that the uncommon colors such as white have 63 dated belts well into March 64 while black belts appear right off in January 64. My best guess is that all left over 63 belts were used before the new stock started to appear. Not based upon a survey, but comments & observations.
