    C2 carb dating replacement

Just wondering, are there any cases anyone knows of or that are documented where the carburetor that was installed when the vette actually left the factory was dated 1-2 weeks later that when the engine was built, due to the carb being damaged, etc at the plant or in transit? Such as, could a carb dated 921 be on an engine that was built at Flint on 8/31 for example? Just seems like stuff could and would be damaged time to time. Distributors could be another example of something that would be easy to damage.

    Al,

The carburetor was installed at St Louis so the date needs to be before the car assembly date not the motor assembly date.

      Al,

It's likely that the carburetor you have is the original even though it is dated much later than the engine. The engine assembly may have sat for weeks in the St Louis plant before being loaded on the engine line conveyor. The carburetor, on the other hand, may have been just recently shipped to the plant so ot's date could be weeks ;later.

As long as the dates on both the engine and carburetor are before the date of the vehicle assembly, you are ok.

If a carburetor, or other St Louis added component is damaged during installation, another part with a similar date would replace it.

Thanks, I was under the impression that the engines were test fired at Flint & Tonowanda, So I thought the carbs would be installed there also. Interesting to know also that if parts were damaged, that the dates would be ok as long as they were before the car build date.

Test firing was on natural gas or propane/butane.....not gasoline. No carb was needed.
