    All------

You guys are going to be the death of me. I mean, forcing me to go out a dig out coil springs in order to prove to myself that I was right in my recollection. Note the photo attached of an NOS GM #331316 spring. The black finish appears to me to be powder coating and not paint.

The 331316 are slightly longer in free length than the 3931823. However, they produce a virtually identical ride height so there must be some other slight difference in the design that "compensates". I've used them and have found them to be perfect. With a rebuilt original rear spring and rear suspension they produced a ride height that was identical front and rear.DSCN2614.jpgDSCN2615.jpgDSCN2616.jpgDSCN2617.jpg

      Terry,
The acids I am speaking of are not a harsh commercial grade, but rather a light, but effective for the purpose.
      Thanks.

Joe, obviously you were right. I never seen them painted other than from the aftermarket. Is it possible that I can speak with you personally. Could you leave me a reach number on my personal email at goduti@att.net? I promise I won't make you go out to the bin again at night, but may be during the day time hours. Thanks.

OK, I'll e-mail you a number. However, getting these springs out has the same effect on my back, day or night, and I just put the one I photographed away. I might be able to get it out again if necessary, though, as I re-arranged things a little.

I can tell you this: I purchased a total of 6 of these springs from a GM dealer with the first set purchased nearly 30 years ago. All came out of the GMSPO Regional Parts warehouse in Sparks, NV. All are black powder-coated.

Thanks everyone, I did not mean to cause such a stir. I just want to get something that will look and ride like the originals.

              Hudec,

I've said from the beginning, you are a troublemaker. I knew it the first time we met.

I'm going to be watching you...
