    Front Compressor Pulley Wanted

My 1965 A/C Coupe is in the restoration shop having the factory C60 (A/C) system restored in order to recover NCRS originality points. My A/C compressor has the wrong size pulley on the front of it. The size is larger for those A/C systems installed on the L76 (365hp) engine. It is 6-3/8" O.D. I am looking for one. I have been told that this pulley was used in all Chev. high performance cars with A/C (i.e.: SS396 Chevelle, etc.) up through the early 70's. Anyone have one for sale or know where I can find one?

Part of the problem is this: the only A/C compressor pulley EVER available from GM in SERVICE for 64-68 Corvettes was GM #5914745. I believe this pulley is about 5" to 5-1/4" OD. So, if there's a 6-3/8" compressor pulley out there it must be a PRODUCTION-only piece. That would be unusual for something like this but it may have happened. However, that would mean your only source would be used.

Clark -- you may have to settle for repro (Long Island has them at $250). I don't think that this pulley was used on Chev cars after the '65 Corvette. Kind of hard to follow the trail using the parts books, as the P&A30 (passenger car & Corvette) shows '62-3 All w/H.Per #5914724 [if that is the 6.25"O.D. one] , but we know that Corvette only offered it on L76-C60 in 1964-5., and this part # disappears from the P&A's after 1969.

I have a Delco air conditioning catalog (dated 1973) which doesn't show the GM numbers, but rather their 15-223 pulley, which is identified as the only 6" pulley available, (may be GM part # 6550482) and again repeats the '62-64 timeframe for Cadillac; '62-3 Chev hi perf; not Chevelle, Chevy II or Nova; yes for Corvette hi perf only, in '62-3 (huh ?). But the 1971-4 Opel Manta 1900 does use the 15-223 .

Usually, the term "H/Perf" in the parts catalogs for the 62-63 period refers to 300 HP engines.

The GM #5914724 was discontinued without supercession in March, 1971.

          Re: Front Compressor Pulley Wanted

I have ordered one from Long Island Corvettes ($250). I hope they have one in stock. However, I would always prefer an original. Now, I'm looking for a fan motor for the A/C/heater. The one in my car is not correct. Anyone have a good used STV that works?

Joe -- then I'm wondering what this is; measures 6.354" O.D. (let's call it a hair under 6_3/8), and per the Delco A/C catalog I describe above, the 15-223 seems to cover the same years and vehicles that the GM P & A catalogs were calling out 5914724.

This pulley includes the bearing; that brown paper is impregnated with an anti-oxidation agent. According to my GM master price list May of 1980, 6550482 was still available at $126 list.

As far as Corvettes go the GM #6550482 was cataloged only for 1971-72 with small block and C-60. It is possible, though, that the application was only LT-1 with C-60. The 6550482 was discontinued without supercession in 1981. I can find no predecessor part numbers for it.
