C-1 control arm shafts

Just bought 61 vette and new to this style of A-frame. My question is where do the "square O-rings" go on the shafts. When cleaning a seal fell off and one of those o-rings so I need to replace but before I take apart I would like a clue of what to expect. Not sure when I order the seal kit if it will come with instructions and my shop manual does not help. any help appreciated. thanks Mike 53700

Basically all that o-ring does is keep the grease fom spilling out too far, and helps"prevent" dirt from getting in. IMHO, it doesn't have a significant enough function to warrant taking the front end apart to replace. I'm at work so I don't remember which shaft it is on.

Figures 15, 16, 19, and 23 in Section 3 (Front Suspension) of the ST-12 Shop Manual show the cross-sections (with the seals) of all four bushings; lower inner, lower outer, upper inner, and upper outer.

Mike,

Do a search on front suspension and look for a post by Tom Parson's. Look for a link to an article Tom wrote on rebuilding C1 front ends. The article will have all the information you would ever want on your front suspension.
