My brother-in-law recntly bought a spring liner kit for his '64 from Paragon, the same part number I bought last winter for my '72. They shoud be the same, right?? When we went to put the spring together the liners were too narrow. Anyone have a recent experience with these??

Re: Spring liner issue
Lynn,
did you put it together and tighten up the bolt, using C Clamps to squeeze the spring tight? I just restored an original spring for my 65, and bought the Paragon liner set about one month ago. The liners looked to be the same overall width as the leaves themselves, ie. 2 1/4" meaning that the space between the liner sides looks narrower than the leaves. However, when I assembled the spring and tightened it together, before hanging it under the car, the leaves apparently made the liners stretch slightly wider and all the pieces nested tightly together, as you want it to. Came out fine.- Top

Re: Spring liner issue
I can't tell you why I think this but I believe the 9-leaf spring was basically the same from 1963 to 1977. If correct it seems that the liners should be the same too. I bought 2 sets of liners from LIC, one for my incorrect 10-leaf service replacement spring and another for a correct 9-leaf spring that I bought later. The springs and leafs were identical.

Re: Spring liner issue
No we did not put it together, the width of the liner and spring aren't even close. This is not my spring but last winter I did my spring with liners from Paragon, same part number, and they fit just fine. I guess that's why I'm concerned and didn't move further. I don't have the inside width of the liner but I'll get it and post it. Perhaps they changed the design and want the liners squeezed out???- Top

Re: Spring liner issue
Here's a couple pics of liners with correct fit ('63 9-leaf spring). I believe I got them from Keen Parts, but not certain.- Top
