    New Glass Polishing Kit Created

    Hi All,

I've been trading emails with the president of the Glass Guru company makers of the scratch removal kit for glass. They have a kit that is $1370 and it's geared toward pros doing many jobs. I asked if he could create a "hobbyist" kit for us doing single windshield repairs. They have created 3" and 6" starter kits.

The info is below. The 3" kit is $262 and the 6" kit is $357.

    Don

    Don-

Hope you had a good New Year's weekend and things are working out on the windshield. *I got a call from another guy in your association this morning who I'm assuming you sent over so thanks again. *We took your suggestion and added a new page (http://scratchremovalstore.com/scrat...ategory=10)*to our store with *3" and 6" starter kits that we now have available. *

    All the best in 2012,

    IMHO.
If windshield glass is not reletively flat it will produce distortions.
Therefore by removing a localized scratch a low spot is created in the windshield and distortion will be present.

      Don,

Does the 3" and 6" spec refer to the diameter of the abrasive pads?

I think it's great that you took the initiative to ask for these starter kits. This should make the system affordable to many more hobby-class people.

I agree with Bruce, be very careful where the scratch is. If it is in your line of sight, you are going to be very disappointed with the distortion. Think of it as filling in a low spot when doing body work, if you build it back up and level it off no one will know, if you don't it will wave to you forever. Just my old two cents.

Hi Gary...Yes, the 3" and 6" are the pad diameters. They also have 8" pads...Don

I pinged the owner on how to deal with any glass distortion issues. Here's the response. FYI...Don

Anytime you grind down the surface of glass you can leave a low spot which causes distortion. *When simply polishing glass this will rarely occur as the polish removes such microscopic layers of glass it would take an extreme amount of time remove enough to cause noticable distortion. *When using more aggressive grinding pads, its important to maintain an even grind and to feather the area out significantly to minimize the distorted effect.
