69 427 factory side exhaust questions

my 69 427 has factory side pipes.

The car has an original rusted pipe on the drivers side that sounds great, and an aftermarket replacement on the passenger side that sounds like crap and required cutting and rotation to properly fit.

Who makes the best stock replacements?

Could side exhaust be ordered with any combination of engine, trans, a/c, etc.? If so, was there any difference in pipe size between a small block and big block?

I think the small blocks had 2" pipes and the big blocks had 2 1/2" or 2 3/4", and yes they could be ordered with any engine. The original, I think, were like my '67s, carbon steel, but I have not seen anything these days but stainless and aluminized, Zip Corvette and others have them. I did find carbon steel for my '67 at Zip.

I'm loathe to get involved in any side pipe inquiries but notwithstanding that I'll offer this:

The 1969 side pipe/muffler assemblies were different for small block and big block. I believe the primary difference is the forward end of the pipe with flange for manifold attachment. I think the size of the pipes is the same.

The side pipe option was available with any engine or transmission, including base engine.

I believe that Allen's Exhaust in Logansport, IN purchased the last remaining GM inventory of these side exhaust components. They may still have some for sale.

I can buy aluminized pipes from Allens for $485 plus tax shipped. Does anyone have them on their cars? How do they sound compared to factory? How do they fit?
