I'm trying to install the new Delco fuel sending unit in my tank, BUT, the new one has a rectangular type of electrical base on the pickup tube as opposed to the oval style on the original. I can't get it to fit thru the opening of the tank regardless which way I turn it. Also, the wire orientation is different on the newer one where the harness connects. Anyone else had this problem? Will the tank have to be removed to allow installation OR will that even allow it to be installed? I'm thinking of sending this one back and have my original restored by John Wolfe. Ideas or suggestions most appreciated!!

Re: C2 fuel tank sending unit
Jerry, I don't think it is marked with I or S. It came in a Delco box from 1 of the corvette parts suppliers. The portion I'm referring to is the piece that goes inside the tank that the float arm attaches to that has the wires hooked to it. The newer one is a rectangle shape whereas the original is oval shaped. I'm in TN for a couple of days, so I can't put my hands on it right now to look at you are showing, but I'll look at it when I return OR MAYBE? Volunteer Vette will let me look at one in the box tomorrow? Al- Top

Re: C2 fuel tank sending unit
Jerry, the one I have is closer to the original, but the inside switch is just rectangular, rather than oval shaped. I'm going to return it to the vendor and send my original to John Wolfe & Co. for restoration. Then I be "good to go"!! The rebuild/restoration isn't that much more in price. Thanks for the response.- Top

Re: C2 fuel tank sending unit
Al,
Here's what I had to do to my original to make it work:
First I had to solder on the broken band connection to the Rheostat, also had to do a mechanical splice in the other lead where it was inadvertantly cut.

Then I had to fix the insulation to the lead within the housing where it had cracked from use:

Then it was a filing of the contactor, and a gentle cleanup of the rheostat wiring, reassembly, and it was good to go.
This was about 6 years ago, and it still works.Jerry Fuccillo
