1965 Corvette Glove Box Lid and Dash Color

I'm about to prepare my 65' conv for Winter Judging and need tp touch up key rash on the bottom of the dash cluster and some minpr scratches on the exterior glox box door. Someone told my that Krylon make a spray paint number Black 1316? that's almost a perfect match. Could some one confirm the paint number if correct so I can obtain the correct can?

I also need to touch up with Ermine White spray paint under the radiator body guard that's body colored. Does anyone know who provides stock color exterior paints in a spray can??

Thanks as always for the assistance.

    Mike,

Take a look at this thread for the Krylon black.

      Mike,
there's lots of threads in the archives on Krylon 1613, which I think many recommend for the under hood blackout. I don't know if it is also right for the cluster.
Here is one thread on it.

Run up Dash Cluster Paint in the advanced search, and see what comes up there.

          Hi Mike,
I just posted the following on a thread regarding my underside of hood restoration that I started during the holiday break:
"I ordered a rattle can from an online company called "PaintScratch" Automotive Touch-up Paint. I still had enough spray paint from an order I placed about 18 months ago when I painted the rain rail on the car. I requested a single-stage paint and gave them the paint code. The first can they sent me was a little dark, so I sent them a color sample and they made me a new can at no charge. It would be best to send them a color sample when placing the order the first time around (live & learn)". Good quality paint at a reasonable price... and it shipped quickly, too.

          Good luck,
          Roger (50141)

I should have clarified that the "PaintScratch" Automotive Touch-up Paint is for your Ermine White, not the black for the glove box door. They also offer their paint in base/clear coat if you prefer. Most members like the Krylon 1613 and the SEM black paints as Patrick mentioned. I have used "Rust-oleum" Painter's Touch Ultra Cover flat black for engine bay touch-ups (perfect match) and the entire underside of my hood. It is really a semi-flat (approaching satin) finish which I think would be very good for the glove box door as well. They also sell it in a satin finish, but I find it too shiny. You can buy it at your local Ace Hardware or Home Depot. Jack P. has recently logged a thread about his glove box door restoration that you might want to search on the TDB to see what paint he used. The problem with the Krylon paint is that it appears to be a product that is not kept in stock, so you would have to order it online and have it shipped.

                Michael,
If it was Krylon semi-flat that you picked up at Walmart, it's likely 51613, not the old 1613 formulation, which many restorers felt was a close match to the original blackout, cluster and glove box paint (along with the SEM semi-flat). 51613 is too glossy. 1613 is still available through commercial/industrial sources. You can check the archives for lots of discussion on the issue and sources. If it is 51613 that you picked up, I would suggest doing a test spray before you get too serious with the rattle can.
                Good luck,
                Jeff
