    C2 accelerator spacer block

I bought an accelerator spacer block after reading some posts on the subject. The vendor (LIC) lists them for '63-'67s. I'm about ready to install new carpet (ACC through Corvette America) and decided to double-check the application. The JG does not mention them for '63-'64 cars. A recent post on this TDB asked about installing them above or below the carpet on a '63. The response was "below". Another post indicated that the spacer fits in a hole in the jute underlay and it makes sense to me that if a layer of jute is the underlayment, a spacer would be needed to place the base of the pedal at the corrct height. However my JG says that '63s and '64s have foam-backed carpet. My new carpet is foam-backed. There is no cut-out in the foam or carpet I bought and the spacer is thicker than the foam + carpet. So now I'm having doubts that the spacer block is correct for '63-'64 unless the underlay is different on coupes. Mine is a roadster.

Can anyone shed light on this?
    Thanks-Doug

    Doug,

The Spacer for the gas pedal is listed in the AIMs:

1963 AIM, Section 1, Sheet B33, Item 11, GM 3840216. Revision record shows it (symbol 6, a.k.a. item 11 Spacer) was added 12-3-62, along with symbols 3 (change to Item 3, carpet at underbody tunnel, rear compartment), symbol 4 (change to Item 1, Carpet Asm. floor/footwell) & symbol 5 (added Cement for Spacer to Underbody).

1964 AIM, Section 1 Assembly, Sheet C11, Item 16, GM 3840216. Revision record shows the Spacer & Cement were added 4-8-64. I don't know why it says "Added", since it is the same p/n that was added on 12-3-62 in the 1963 AIM, unless it was temporarily removed and then brought back (page was Redrawn & Revised 10-14-63).

In the 1965-1967 AIMs (UPC 1ASM-F11) the gas pedal Spacer is called out as GM 3863736, so it was not the same GM p/n for 1963-1967.

I can't answer your other questions, but this might advance the discussion,

    Scott

      Hi Scott,
Thanks for your input. Another user of this TDB wrote to tell me his March '64 original car had the spacer block. Since the date you reference is after his build date I'm guessing the spacer was not added to requirements in April '64. Maybe it was omitted from the AIM and added on that date. I'm going to assume it should be on my Dec '63 car and install it.

        Re: C2 accelerator spacer block

As I recall from the restoration of many 63-64 Corvettes all of them had a spacer BUT the spacer was only about 3/4 the height of the spacer that is sold today via LI, Volunteer, CC and many others. Certainly the jute backing is much thicker than the foam backed carpet alone.

Remember I started this with "As I recall" That's always shakey ground when your as young as myself and a few others on this board.

          Re: C2 accelerator spacer block

          Doug,

My mid-January 1964 built convertible had an accelerator spacer block under the original carpet when I removed for restoration.
