    67 spare tire judging

I have 4 BF Goodrich radials with 5/8" whitewalls (OEM brand) on my car now, which I will keep, and take the judging deduction. I want to use a nice original BF Goodrich Silvertown 660 non-DOT blackwall (OEM) as my spare. All original rims.
I know these areas are judged separately. Can anyone think of any problems with the spare? How about blackwall vs whitewall?
Thanks, and Happy New Year to all
    Ken

    Ken,

Your car either came with blackwalls or whitewalls and not both so it would be logical to take off points for the spare not being a whitewall. I'm sure if you wished they would deduct for the tires on the ground not being blackwalls! Quite a bit difference in points! My advise would be to at least match the spare with the tires on the ground.

I believe they are scored seperately so it shouldn't matter if you have them mixed.

          Mike -

That's correct - the spare doesn't have to match the road tires; there's no deduction for a non-matching spare which appears as original.

I think Joe is correct. You can not mix black wall, white wall, red line and or gold line tires. The mix is intended for manufacturer of tire, not side wall and size of tire.

                Ken,

When in doubt look at the JG.

And, to be up to date, check the Standard Deduction Guidelines in the 8th Edition Corvette Judging Reference Manual, plus the July, 2011 Supplement (Rev. 4.0).

                    Re: 67 spare tire judging

Well, I checked my 7th edition Judging Refernce Manual. It says "Do not deduct for a non-matching spare that appears as original. The 4th Edition Corvette Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide says "Judge road tires and spare serarately" Neither say anything about the road tires and spare being different in terms of blackwall/whitewall or even if they are different manufacturers. Does anyone know of anything new in the 8th edition Judging Reference Manual or the Supplement? There seem to be a lot of different opinions posted here. Wonder if the judges will have same problem....
