    65 Accelerator Pedal

My accelerator pedal wanders off of the rod to the left. The pedal is mounted with two bolts/washers through the floor. I have what appears to be a plate that I assume mounts on the underbody to position the pedal securely and prevent this. I can see the accel assy in my AIM, but only what is in the drivers compartment. Can anyone shed light on the proper way to attach this plate to correct the problem?

    Thanks
    Dennis

    Dennis -

There's a plate riveted to the bottom of the underbody which supports the rear inboard corner of the big triangular steel splash shield, and that plate also carries the two weld nuts that accept the two phillips-head screws that secure the accelerator pedal to the floor; that plate is shown in your Assembly Manual in section 1-Bolt/Weld, sheet B2, item #9. On the inside of the car, there's a carpet heel pad spacer that's glued to the floor and fits into a cutout in the jute backing on the carpet to maintain the level position of the accelerator pedal when its two screws are tightened - it's shown in section 1-Asm, sheet F11, View "B", item #6.

John, thanks for your post. After looking at it all again, what I am missing is the splash shield. I have the plate with the weld nuts, and couldn't figure out a way to mount it. Looked at the splash shield from Volvette (ET32) and although I dont see a hole to rivet the weld nut bracket to, I will find a splash shield and fix my accel problem.
      Thanks again John

PS Found one at Paragon that looks perfect....
