    Delco Remy Packaging

At swap meets I have seen Delco points in Orange and White foil packaging and Red and White foil packaging. I've also seen condensers in Orange White and Black packaging and in Red White and Blue packaging. Which color packaging is older ?

I believe there was a black and yellow in there at some time.

From what I was able to find in the archives the Yellow and Black was from the 50's into the early 60's.

Things are getting "mixed up" here. The yellow and black packaging is applicable to old parts from the GM parts system. Your original question pertained to Delco parts system parts. In general, the orange and white Delco packaging is older than thee red and white.

You are right Joe, I was refering to mainly Delco ignition points, caps , coils etc. not the GM parts system packaging. I thought that the Orange and White might be older as I have seen many more of the Red and White at swap meets. Thanks.

The orange and black/white boxing changed to the red and white boxing around 1971-73 time period.

Here's a few examples (provided by the few of us who have managed to stumble on how to get a jpeg posted). The foil boxes are a redish-orange, IMO.

I understand the all orange Delco boxes (although maybe not contact points boxes) were up to around 1962, depending on the part. I would have guessed that the red/blue/white started '69-ish.

                Wayne:

I clearly remember buying D106 and D112 points in the orange/white/black boxes in 1970 and 1971. After that, I switched to ACCEL points and (later) ACCEL dual point distributor. Perhaps I was buying DELCO stuff that had been sitting in inventory for awhile. But the orange/white/black boxes and foil paks were still around in 1972.

                  Wayne------

The Delco packaging that was "mostly orange with a little white and black" was used up until ABOUT 1962. However, the orange style packaging that you have pictured was used thereafter until ABOUT 1970.

Keep in mind that the style of packaging was TRANSITIONAL and somewhat varied within the GM division involved (e.g. Delco-Remy, Delco-Packard, etc.).
