Heater resistor - do I need this?

Hello, I have a '68 L68 coupe. I was removing the radio and cluster bezel in order to replace the oil pressure line and notice three clipped wires, one blue, one orange, one yellow running out of the harness that skirts between the guages and radio. Other connected wires in this harness run to the directional signal flasher regulator, right lower courtesy light, and to the passenger door switch for the dome lights. From the AIM UPC 12 page B7 it seems these three wires go to the heater resistor connector that has for some reason been removed. Do I need the heater resistor? Is the connector available that I can at least tidy up the loose wires?

    Thanks for the advice!

      Does your car have A/C?

The blower works on all three speeds with the A/C. I have tried the heater (left dial on "HOT" and right dial on "HTR") but cannot recall what speed I had the blower on. I did feel heat. I have the guage bezel and shift console currently off the dash but believe I can run the car and test the fan. Does any of this have to do with not getting any air flow to the defroster duct? I've not had any luck in getting air to move from dash or under dash to the defroster duct.

So, if I can find the pigtail to the heater resistor wires, what does it connect to?

Thanks again for all the advice!!

          Pete -

That connector is for the heater resistor on the inside heater box on a non-A/C car - it was present on all dash harnesses; on an A/C car, it was to be taped up out of the way, as it wasn't used. The heater resistor on an A/C car is under the hood, on the evaporatior housing, and the A/C wiring harness has the wiring and connector for it. Your '68 Shop Manual shows the cables and the air, heat, and defroster doors they operate inside the A/C box inside the car.

Thanks John! I suppose someone just cut the connector off as the tape failed to keep it out of the way. I'll do further research on the defroster airflow issues.
