Hello Guys; I can use some help with a project I wish i did not get into. I am restoring a 1963 corvette and I have all 7 pieces of tinted glass NOS in the LOF boxes! The problem however is that the logos or the date codes are not correct for my car. I really would like to use this glass and need to remove the logos in each piece of glass. I was told that there was a fella in PA. who purchased an expensive glass polishing kit and that it worked well. I was told that he was willing to rent it out to recover some of his cost. Might anyone know who this fella my be or know of anyone who has this kit. I think it was sold by C L Lawrence Inc. I have been able to get the logos off using 220 grit paper. Now i need to work it with finer and finer paper and compounds to get it nice. ANY and all help will be appreciated. Please contact me at 732-939-2192. Thanks, Andy NJ

Re: Glass polishing
Andy, there's a bunch of these in the archives. The first one is the one that I was thinking of, but there are others.

We still get five free searches for threads similar to your title (that is one reason choosing a thread title wisely is an advantage). Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find links to some similar threads; I suspect including at least one Paul posted.Terry- Top

Re: Glass polishing
There has always (since we went to vBulletin) been links at the bottom of the thread page to five similar threads. One doesn't have to search at all if the thread title is related to the subject matter. One simply has to scroll down to see those links. So far as I know, now that Rob has been through the archives, there is no restrictions on additional searching.
I only mention those five similar threads because many people are not aware they are down at the bottom of the page.Terry- Top

I usually end up searching the threads because the thread that I'm always thinking of is seldom at the bottom of the page. People think differently and as you said, they don't always select the most descriptive title for the thread.- Top

Re: Glass polishing
Be careful polishing tinted glass. Polishing removes a very small amount of glass just like polishing paint removes a very small amount of paint. In my experience when you polish tinted glass some of the tint is removed also and the area that was polished ends up "lighter" than the surrounding tint.Bill Strobel

Re: Glass polishing
I looked at the other thread that referencing excellent results from the $1350 kit from http://www.scratchremovalstore.com/. I submitted some questions on their contact form indicating that I already own a porter cable orbital and backing pads and do not need 5 stages of 10-pack grinding/polishing pads for a single windshield as their kit is geared to commercial/professional operations. The president responded that I can call in and they will cut the 10 packs in 1/2 at 1/2 the cost for ala cart items.
I sent another request in and asked if his firm wanted to create a "hobbyist" kit for our smaller projects.
