Re: 1967 cigarette lighter
Keith,
I have been looking for one myself for the last few years. An original 67 lighter with the chromed plastic knob in good condition is very hard, if not impossible to find. The repros are chromed potmetal.
I'm trying to figure out how to rechrome my original.
If you find a source or a correct repro, let me know. The 67 Corvette lighter knob was unique to the Corvette and the year.Jerry Fuccillo

Re: 1967 cigarette lighter
Keith,
I thought that I might have an original 1967 lighter but all I have are several original 1967 radio, AC, and air vent knobs. What you need is an element stamped "63 CASCO" and the 1967 lighter knob. The only original lighter knobs that I have are for a 1963 and a 1965.

You are correct. I had always thought that the 67 Corvette lighter knob and the 67 Chevrolet lighter knob were the same but after looking in my 1967 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (July 1967) the part numbers are not the same.
67 Corvette: 3901628 knob & stud
67 Chevrolet: 3897308 knob w/element (Casco)
GM # 3897308 is also listed in my 1967 Camaro AIM as "KNOB ASM."
The Casco element (assumed to be "63 CASCO") is listed as 3794302 in my 1963 (Oct. 62) and 1972 (Feb. 72) parts catalogs and all parts catalogs in between. My 1973 parts catalog (Sept. 1972) lists GM # 3986889 for the Casco element (assumed to be "72 CASCO").

Re: 1967 cigarette lighter
Dave - As Jerry mentioned the original 67 Corvette lighter knob was plastic which is unique; because the the lighter knob used on other 67 Chev passenger cars was metal. I guess they were trying to save weight.Pete

Re: 1967 cigarette lighter
Apparently the radio knobs on the 67 Corvette (GM # 3897325) were not the same as on the 67 Passenger car (GM # 3897479). My 1968 Chevrolet Radio Catalog (July 1968) lists the 3897325 knobs @ $0.70 each and the 3897479 knobs @ $0.79 each. It seems odd that the passenger car knobs were more expensive.

Re: 1967 cigarette lighter
Hi, Keith -
When I purchsed my '67 Roadster the original cigarette lighter was long gone and it came with the Corvette Central reproduction - die cast knob with the "CC" logo on the back and the "78 Casco 12V" on the element. On the advise of John Hinckley I called Steve Childs the president of Paragon and he stocks both items in his vintage department so I made a road trip up to Paragon and much to my suprise Steve had a drawer full of "63 Casco 12V" elements and many of original '67 knobs! A correct original '67 knob is plastic with a raised "ace" logo molded into the black ring on the back of the knob. The "ace" logo was for the Ace Manufacturing Company out of Bridgeport CT - they molded this knob for Casco also out of Bridgeport CT. You can contact Steve at 1.800.882.4688 or e-mail him at schilds@paragoncorvette.com Steve and his staff at Paragon are long time sponsors of the Michigan Chapter and I'm sure that he can help you out.Tom Komendera
