Who should I have restore the carbs on my 69 435 tri power car? I have heard about Chicago corvette supply but they seem to have a bad reputation. I have 3 original tri power carbs (center for auto) and want to make sure I get my originals back. Who should I send these to? Thanks, Jeff

Re: 69 tri power carb rebuild
You'll find varying opinions. Chuck Smith in CA who advertises in DriveLine or Phil from Custom Carburators in NJ. I used Bob Kunz in the St. Louis area about 5 years ago but I heard he retired.Jack Corso

Re: 69 tri power carb rebuild
My carbs were in rough shape but original, I went through County Corvette in PA. They did not do the work, but sent to a shop in Florida- the work was amazing and my originals came back to me. About $330 per carb. You may want to give them a call and ask who they use. I am very happy with the results!- Top

Re: 69 tri power carb rebuild
since you are in Illinois consider:
Jim McGowan
Quad Shop
5963 Lenden Rd.
Rockford, IL. 61109-3516
815-874-4884
In spite of the name of the shop he does outstanding work on Holleys. Tell him I sent you.Terry- Top

Re: 69 tri power carb rebuild
At 41, you may have just enough time left on this earth to send them to Jerry Luck.
All the names above are good. I would suggest asking, whomever you choose, if they ink stamp the carbs as part of the restoration.

Re: 69 tri power carb rebuild
As mentioned correctly by Jack in the very first response, opinions run the gamut. As I see it, different needs MAY affect the final decision also.
When I had my original '67 triplets rebuilt, I discussed the work with four different rebuilders. All four were extremely knowledgeable experts, yet I quickly determined that one seemed to want to be begged to do the work. I just won't beg anyone to allow them to charge me for needed work.
Of the remaining three, I'm pretty sure i would have been happy with all three of their first-class work.
After considering that I drive my classic cars (not trailer them), I made the decision to go with Holley's Custom Shop. Although likely ranking third of the three in restorative cosmetics, after a 15 minute conversation with the shop manager, I was convinced the actual mechanics of the carburetors would be the state of the art. I'm am not saying in any way the others mentioned here are not just as capable, but I felt like a couple were ranked 98 or 99 on the 100 point ability scale, .....and Holley's shop was ranked 100.
The actual cost involved is pretty much uniform from one vendor to the next.
Here's another shot of the work of Holley's Custom Shop. The carburetors are my original assembly line installed from March of 1967. The manifold in a NOS service replacement with a casting date of March, 1967.
I personally don't think you could go wrong with almost all of those mentioned. Good luck!
