68 gas tank

Looks like I'm going to have to change my gas tank due to rust inside. Need to know if the tank will come out without lifting the body up.

Brandon the gas tank can be removed without lifting the body.

I just changed a fuel tank in a 70 coupe. It turned out to be pretty easy. First time that I had done it, car on the ground, took about 2 1/2 hours.

Installed new tank in about 1 1/2 hours by myself.

1. Disconnect battery
2. Syphon tank
3. Remove fuel filler door, rubber filler neck boot, filler neck
4. Remove mufflers/exhaust as needed
5. Remove spare tire carrier
6. Remove fuel sending unit, wires, fuel line. Check for hoses that attach at upper sides of fuel tank
7. Remove bolts from fuel tank straps, aft side
8. Remove bolts from fuel tank support beam
9. Tip front of tank down and forward, you're done

When you remove the sending unit if there is any gas in the tank it will come out. Be careful. The sending unit turns about an 1/8th of a turn before it pops out.
