On the C2 convertible. which end of the overflow drain pipe does the spring go in, how far from the end of the pipe, and how does one get the spring fully inserted into the pipe? I've tried twisting as in turning it in and pulling it in with a pc. of wire, just wondered if there was an easy way. Thanks all !! Be safe out there thru the holidays!!! Al

Al:
Spring goes into lower end of hose at the bumper. Spring is recessed about 1/4 inch from the end.......just enough so that you don't see it.
DR REBUILD has a video on his website on how to do this job. The short version is to get a piece of metal rod or all-thread that can be inserted into the spring to act as an internal support. Use a nut on the bottom to hold the spring in place. Place this assembly in a vice. Lube the hose and spring with some silicone grease/spray on one end, and push the hose over the supported spring/rod assembly. Then remove the support rod. DR does it in the video in about 15 seconds total.

Re: Gas Tank drain hose C2
Yes, it was pretty easy for me, with a fresh hose from Paragon.
The spring is in the tail end, the part in the bumperette. It has to be there to allow the hose to be snaked out of the valance, into and down and around the bumperette without kinking.
I sprayed silicone lubricant into the hose and onto the spring and the thing slipped in like a hot knife in butter. It went in so easily I had to reach into the hose with a hook to grab it and pull it back. When the silicone dries, the spring won't move. The 65 Judging Guide says the spring should be flush with the end of the hose, and the end of the hose within 1/2" of the bottom edge of the bumperette. (I may have this part backwards)
Finally, don't forget to tie the hose with proper wire tie to the bumperette brace.
Merry Christmas!
oops, I over wrote you Larry, sorry. No need for any rod nor vise when I did mine. Piece of cake.- Top
