Rear deck lid not matching drivers door

I've been going around the car trial fitting bumpers, trim etc making sure everything fits good before paint, and this is the last item I need to deal with. I know this rear driver's side door area doesn't fit real well on some of these convertibles but this is driving me nuts. It is high by 3/16" at this one spot. I have all the gaps set around the car, hood, deck lid, doors, headlights and this rear deck lid corner being off just bugs me to no end. I'm thinking in order to get this decklid corner to meet the door like it should, I'm going to have to lay 3 layers of mat and resin on top of the door and run it forward about half way along the top of door in order to get a good taper for the stainless window trim piece to fit well.

What do you guys think, any other thoughts or suggestions?

    TIA,
    Scott

Scott, not the right way to do it. Set the deck so the top surface aligns with door top surface. Build up outside edge of deck to align with the rear quarter.

      Scott,

Much ado about nothing. I believe the deck is fitting the way it was designed and NO need to build up anything. Your's appears to meet up with the adjacent (outside) panel as it should....AND being slightly higher than back of the door. Have a look at the views I just shot of my '66. Right side view is somewhat clearer than left side however the decklid in that location is distinctly higher. Others I'm sure will chim in but IMO needs nothing.

        Scott,

Also consider seperating the door skin in that location, judiciously, to gain some leveling by shimming the skin against the fiber door frame. Less build up needed on top of skin.

Check if both doors are equally thick in that area. Take a look at the skin to frame thickness of the deck lid.

I'd also put the weather strip in place to see how that impacts your surface levels. Nightmares grow from perfect alignment messed up by weatherstrip.
