Anyone refurbing these...AC bb fuel pumps?

    Merry Christmas, happy holidays all,

I have an original big block AC fuel pump from my '66 427. Currently considering my options. Is anyone refurbing these desireable pumps? If so and how many $$$

Don't give up yet! It's a slow day on the computer.
I would do a search on the part number and see past info for now.

I sent mine to goathill, and do not recommend doing that. It will not be usable without extensive other work.

I found a NOS service replacement in mint condition, but do will not know how it is internally until the day I fire up the rebuilt engine.
The NOS pump is indentical in every aspect to the original.

My plan is to run a reproduction pump for street driving, and use the NOS for the show, assuming it's internals are fine.

Are we talking cosmetic external of a 40366, or undoing the crimp and upgrading the diaphragm, etc, then re-crimping ?

Cosmetics no problem.....would be the latter. Internal upgrade, then recrimp.

Talk with Scott at Volunteer Vettes, 865-521-9100. They have a vendor doing them. I sent Scott a 66 pump, asked only for a rebuild, not restored replated outside. Came back perfect.

                Merry Christmas Michael and others.

I don't know anything about your specific pump but I had 2 of my 40083 pumps restored / re-built by:

Big blocks have the crimped style - you cannot un crimp and re crimp.

Goat Hill is the place that has the tooling and the parts, but the issue will be you are at risk to get your original back, go back through the archives a few years - see what the experiences are you people are saying C-A-U-T-I-O-N!

Your original has a date code that not too many people want to talk about, and goat hill will be one of them. The date code is on the usable portion, the die cast part.

If you are looking to get NCRS new appearance, buy on from Paragon, a couple of years back, they had them and they are most likely coming from Goat hill but they nor GH will say.

If you are in a survivor class - hold on to it - no know solution to getting a new diaphragm inside that style.

Volunteer did a 66, 427-425hp crimped pump for me. Not sure who did it, but came back nice with original bottom on it.

Most of the new mechanical fuel pumps are coming from Airtex, even AC Delco pumps are manufacurered by Airtex

Car has been judged twice so I'm done with NCRS judging however want to retain "appearances". Are Airtex pumps made here in the good ole USA, secondly do they (close enough) mimic the original Delco?

Here's Airtex's 40366M. Good "20-footer" replacement for the # 6416245 original. Notice the bottom section is attached to the top with a separate band that crimps to hold the unit together. There's a "pat. pend" stamped on the band.

I would agree with the 20 footer observation. What's the skinny on bb AC embossed fuel pumps that Keen or LI sell. Who's manfacturing those?

Make sure you are having your fuel pumps upgraded for ethanol.
