    '65 Clock Rebuild

The clock out of my recently purchased '65 needs help (doesn't run although it tries to if you tap on it). Several questions: I see that some of these rebuild outfits can put a quartz movement in. Is that acceptable as regards NCRS standards? Can the judges tell if the clock has a quartz movement or not? Who would be a recommended firm to do a rebuild on the clock-quartz or not? Thanks for any guidance on this,
    Mike

    Mike,
The quartz is easily detectable and so not factory typical. There are several restorers who can do a nice job with original movements for you.
Check here in the archives or email me.

        Mike,
I have repaired several clocks with a few drops of "clock oil" placed on the bearings or rotating axles, not 3 in 1 or wd40. These will gum up the works.Check that the points are clean as well. It is necessary to remove the back cover to do this work.Well worth a try.

        Regards Doug

          Mike,

Give Matt (cant remember his last name here at work) a call 864-414-1580 he used to work for D&M and now is on his own. He rebuilt our original '67 clock and it came out great. He is in the Greenville, SC area.

Ill get you his last name when I get home.
          Thanks,
          Chuck

His last name is Patterson and he's very good. For many, many years he did the vette clusters and gauges at D&M. I know him well and highly recommend him.
