Ebay '73 Ncrs Top Flight Winner?????

Just saw a '73 'TOP FLIGHT' vette on ebay It's a nice car, but there seems to be alot wrong for a top flight. Wrong diverter valve, Tonawanda sicker on valve cover, exhaust system, hoses and on and on. The most interesting one is the air cleaner lid! Someone asked him about, he claims all BB '73's use that one. Yikes!

Well, the seller openly admits that he's a Krook.

Is it just the photo or is that car sitting awfully high in the rear? Seems like the body is way too high off the rear tires.

          Hi,
Wouldn't it be helpful to see the Judging Sheets in addition to the ribbon? That would give an indication of what the judges observed and noted while judging the car.
A less experienced judge at the Chapter level might not see some things a more knowlegable judge at the Regional or National level would make note of.
          Regards,
          Alan

Rich..I too saw that car the other day on eBay and wondered. I saw that air cleaner and it just didn't look right, but I couldn't put my finger on it? I saw everything you did plus....exhaust pipes clamped, luggage rack and twin mirrors, exhaust tips were dark inside the pipe, but they didn't fit well into the exhaust bezels making me think that they may have been 70-72's tips?

Seems like a lot, but you never know you could still lose a lot of obivious points and still get a Top Flight.

It looks like a really nice car!

And it could have been driven a few miles (or more) to the meet to offset losses of the items you have observed.

And who knows how old that award is- and what's been changed since it was judged.

Seems like a really glossy paint, I don't remember that color being high gloss out of the factory.

Playing devil's advocate here only. I have never seen this car before, nor do I know the seller, nor am I interested in this car. I do however love 73's and the NCRS. Sorry to say that everything that was mentioned here is not enough to disqualify this car from being Top Flight. Most of the things mentioned are very minor changes one might make over the course of 40 years. Most could be easily remedied. I do not see twin mirrors and sadly many of these cars received luggage racks. A sticker, air cleaner lid and replaced exhaust/tips and even diverter valve (3 points for originality and condition) would not necessarily knock this car down to second flight. Besides which a Top Flight, while wonderful to have is merely a snapshot at a point in time. No less and no more.
