    C4 93-96 PKE Programming Question

I'm in need of some help in programming the key fob for the PKE. The fob that came with the car works perfectly but unfortunately it has the screw back which is not correct for the 93-96. I recently located two correct fobs for my 96 but can't get either to work. I swapped the battery from the working fob (the original that I got when I bought the car several years ago) and placed it into each of the two new fobs and attempted to program them but can't get either one to work. I was wondering if the problem is that the PKE is somehow locked onto the frequency of the original fob. Both of the new fobs have a different FCC ID from the original.

    Thanks.

Re: C4 93-96 PKE Programming Question

Are you sure you are doing the program procedure correctly ?

    1. Move all Keyless Remotes out of range of vehicle. (10 to 15 feet)

    2. Turn ignition key to the ON position.

    3. Push the TRIP/ODO button on the DIC (Driver Info Center) twice.

    4. Within 5 seconds, push & hold the FUEL INFO button on the DIC until
the PKE light comes on and stays on.

    5. Turn the ignition to the OFF position, but leave the key in the ignition.
The PKE light will begin flashing.

    6. Bring one Keyless Remote into range. The PKE light will stop flashing
and stay on to show the code is stored. Move the Keyless Remote out
of range. The PKE light will begin flashing indicating the system is ready
    for the next Keyless Remote.

    7. If more than one Keyless Remote is being programmed, move the first
Keyless Remote out of range and repeat step 6 for any additional Keyless
Remotes. Up to three Keyless Remotes can be programmed.

    8. To turn off the programming mode, simply remove the key from the ignition
or turn the ignition switch on.

    9. The programming mode will shut off after two minutes if.
    A) You have not programmed any Keyless Remotes.
    B) Removed the key from the ignition.
    C) After three Keyless Remotes have been programmed.

        Tom,

Thanks for the very detailed set of instructions. I have followed these as well as the Owner's Manual (or at least I believe I have) without success. As I mentioned, I can program the original fob without any problems but can't get either of the replacements to work following the same programming procedures including distance from the car when starting the process.

Does the car react to the programming procedure when you are in the process ?? I mean, does the light flash on the DIC ?

This may sound like a dumb question, but are you sure the new units you are programming aren't working ?? You do know the system is passive and they don't operate like a traditional remote. Just asking so I can better try to help.

Re: C4 93-96 PKE Programming Question

Good question. The flashing light never does go to a steady state no matter how long I stand by the car with the FOB in my hand. When I walk away from the car the horn does not beep nor do the doors lock. When I programmed the originial one the light went steady state as soon as I walk up to the car and the horn beeped and doors locked as I walked away.

Can you post a picture of the transmitters you are trying to program ?

                        Tom,

The FOB that is seperated into its 2 parts (front and back) is the unit that I cannot program. The other FOB works. Thanks.

That is the style you need for sure. Just wanted to be sure. Looks like that one may have had a hard life. Perhaps it's bad ?
