    '63 gas pedal spacer?

Above or under carpet? I can't find a '63 assembly manual this morning although I've got at least 2. I'm thinking under but can't remember and a guy is headed to my shop to put it in my coupe.

I usta' do all this myself, but scrapin', reachin', bendin', and smellin' glue doesn't excite me anymore and I don't think I've got the patience for a '63 carpet set with all 18 of it's pieces.

Norris, AIM page 78. In the AIM, the lines in the heel pad look as if they go under the spacer. So, I guess the spacer goes above the carpet.

If you are talking about the "H" style block, it is there to keep the carpet height the same as the jute backing when the pedal is fastened to the floor. If the carpet has jute then the block is required, under the carpet.

        Norris,

The spacer goes under the carpet.

By the way, cars built before December 1962 didn't have the spacer.

          Thanks guys.

Michael, this is in fact an early car, but I can't remember how early. It had an old deteriorated spacer laying in the floor in the general area of the pedal, but carpet and pedal had been removed when I bought the car about 25 or 30 yrs ago.

Just as a follow up, this car was D2 built. I've owned it for about 30 yrs and it was taken apart by a previous owner in about 1975, presumably for restoration. I'm not in front of it today, but believe the miles are in the 40K's. This car had a very deteriorated spacer in the floor but the carpet had been already been removed when I bought it. Basically it has been jailed in my warehouse all these years on a dolly with the chassis out until I seriously got after it earlier this year. When I looked at it closer after posting this question originally, there was a good outline in the floor where the spacer had been. Although I couldn't say with absolute certainty that this spacer was installed in this car from the factory since I never saw the car until '76 or '77, it sure seems unlikey that it was added under the carpet in the 12 years or so before it was scattered.
