    Rim Work

Going to replace my tires on 67 steel wheels, when I take the old tires off should I restore and paint the inside of the wheel if so what should be done.

Joe its really something you'll just have to look at when the tires or broke down and off the rim, The sealing bead of the rim is the most important , If theres rust in that area you may want to re-condition( sand blast or glass bead them). if not maybe just sprize them up alittle with some paint. to protect them.

      Re: Rim Work

While this post is about rims, I though I would ask about getting my rims straightened.

I have all original 66 rims on my car and two of them need work to get them balanced.

One of the rims has the center tweaked , so that the rim(s) does not spin straight. A local guy who does alloy rim work could not pull the center in line with his tools

I think the rim got bent when I drove 6o miles with a failing rear bearing, to the extent that the wheel , rim and spindle fell off in front of my home.
It was snowing and I could not stop anyway , but that is another story

I have not found anyone here in Maine , if you know of a company that does rim straightening and truing of steel wheels, in Northern New England, please let me know.

If not here than other regions. I am replacing the tires this winter and wanted to fix the wobble.

Jack, I know this is a ride for you, but they did all 5 of my 63 steel wheels.

Depending on the time they spent it was between $25 and $75 per wheel.

Thanks for your reply, first time user, I was thinking of that should I just use a rustoleum or the silver paint that the rim is painted with that way there is no over spray.
