    58 engine suffix

Can anybody tell me if suffix F609D is a passenger car or a vette engine. The suffix I've seen has always had two letters on the end.

Thanks Dan. That is what i thought but a friend told me that the "D" could be for either a passenger or vette. I have seen alot of DB which I knew was for passenger cars but had not seen just "D".

        Brandon -

        Almost all "D" suffixes were passenger car 283 2-barrel Powerglides; F609D would be a '58,'59 or '60.

I have been told that "D" alone at the end of the series is a passenger car with a two barrel carburetor.

As John H. stated: The "D" suffix on 58 to 62 blocks signifies Passenger car 283 CI, 170 HP, 2 barrel Powerglide.

            The "D" On 63 & 64 blocks signifies Passenger car 283 CI, 195 HP, 2 barrel Powerglide.

              A three number date would make it a 58 or 59. A 60 would have been F0609D.
