Is this mark on my 64 coupe from the factory?

When i cleaned the undercarriage before sanding and spray painting the undercarriage i found this triangle mark
Any know if this is a factory mark or if somebody just made the mark at a later time?

Could be a factory mark, but it doesn't appear to be a significant one that gives any info about the car. I'd take a couple of good pictures of it if you want and then start painting ! You got it lookin good !

Claus, you might be able to see markings on the bulkhead just infront of the gas tank, maybe a job number etc.

One idea would be it was a mark by an operator or inspector on the line to alert a repairman to an item requiring attention,,,

Must say those marks looks similar even if they are marked on different places on the car

I am not saying this is what happened to your cars, but is just a story to illustrate how process lines can work.

I was watching the machining of cylinder cases one of the times I visited Flint Engine. The automated machine at this station was drilling a long hole front to back on the cylinder cases, which were moving through the machine. The operator stopped the machine to make an adjustment, and after making it he reached in and made a grease pencil mark on the next cylinder case that was going to be drilled. He started the machine and it processed about half a dozen cases before the marked one got clear enough of the machinery that he could stop the machine and measure the marked case.

He evidently wasn't satisfied with the measurement because he made another adjustment, marked the next case in line and started the machine again. At that point I got bored and moved on.

I don't know what the marks you guys have found might mean, but there are a wide range of possibilities.

Perhaps " do not make any more of those wrong parts"
