1967 Conv top date codes

All, I need some insight please relative to 67 conv top date codes. Current 4th edition manual states on page 54 that the date codes are in the "M-YY" format. HOWEVER, see the picture below of a 3 digit code of MM-Y on an alleged original 67 top, I read this as Oct 1966 which is on serial # 17xxx car.

Were the date codes always 3 digits? Whereby they could be M-YY OR MM-Y or was there some other logic to how they dated the conv tops?

I have two here one dated 864 and the other dated 366. That is the common dating, but I dont remember seeing one after the single digits.

Hi Mitch,
I have whats left of an original top from vin 2232. This car was has a build date of C03. This car and probably many more were caught up in the month long strike in Oct of 1966. I think the 366 is March 1966 which puts it out of the six month window of the present judging guide. We might need to adjust the guide.

Page and Wayne, thanks for the responses, it sort of confirms my thinking as well. Maybe someone out there has a picture of a 67 dated top, which I suspect would be x67. Good point also on updating the 67 CTIM-JG, thanks again, Mitch

Hi Mitch,
Found a couple of more original top photos. One is from vin 172xx dated 106 (OCT 1966) and the other from vin#182xx dated 367 (March 1967) It looks like the used a 3 digit system that depending on whether the month was a one or two digit number that determined the number of digits used for the year? The other interesting thing is the cars are about 1000 apart and the tops are 5 to 6 months aparts.

Thanks again Page, you have been very helpful. I just got off phone with a friend who has 3 original tops on cars with the following dates "115" - "106" - "106"..............so it seems to begin to prove out the 3 digit sequence. Maybe others out there have pictures of tops dated Jan 67 thru Sept 67 to further solidify the 3 digit sequence you mention, thanks again, Mitch

For VIN 8242 with a build date of Jan 16, top is dated 106.

Hi Mitch,
I think this is the last photo I have of an original top date code. This was on a 1966 St Louis car vin# 267xx built K19 (July 19) it looks like its dated 265 (Feb 65). The last number is hard to read but looks like a 5 too me. That would make it 17 months out. If it's 266 (Feb 66) thats a good 5 months depending on when in Feb it was made.

I have and Had 2 bowtie cars - all were three digits regards if month was single digit month or 2 digit
