    Crossfire to side draft webers

Have an 82 crossfire 350. Was wondering if I could get away with replacing the intake and throttle bodies with a side draft intake and 4 weber 40 carbs jetted down.

I think the judges might notice it.

    Why?

Was wondering if the internals (cam) would be able to handle the change in air/fuel delivery without giving me a headache tuning it. Not interested in judging concerns.

        Michael,

Please tell us your reasoning for wanting to make this change.

I can not imagine any 82 crossfire engine worth the expense of changing to a side draft Weber set up unless it was given to you and you just want to play with it.

Well I have one of those door stops (cross/no/fire) injection units that I would not buy so the guy gave it to me to get rid of it!

Sure, it will work but you had better have the availability of a number of jets to work with.

I think it would be cool!!!!!

The judges will never know the difference!!!

The carburetors alone will cost more than the car is worth (not to mention the intake manifold), tuning it will be very difficult, driveability will be poor, and you (or whomever gets the chore of tuning it) will need a WIDE selection of MANY different types of jets and emulsion tubes; when you're done, you'll wonder where to get a vacuum source, and you'll have no sensors for the required inputs to your ECM.

                1. Judges would notice (as indicated in posting #2).

                2. Your hood might not close (crossram Webers are tall and wide)

                3. 40mm DCOE carburetors would almost certainly strangle the 350 in your '82. I wouldn't go any smaller than 45mm DCOEs and 50mm DCO/1 would be even better.

I've got some Weber experience. If you decide to press on with this project, I may be able to offer other suggestions.

This is the engine in my vintage racer:

Mike you might consider installing a Edlebrook port fuel injection system which can be fine tuned according to the engine and mods you install. its a plug a play if you install there system with a head and cam pkg. other wise it can be fine tuned to the stock configuration. and will add some more horses.

                    Jim, Thanks for your input.

You seem to be one of a few that understands the "why be normal" theory. My crossfire engine has 95000 miles on it and will need to be rebuilt sooner or later. So instead of going concours bone stock I want something a little different under the hood. And as you know very few have weber setups. Dont care about the price, want a great running car that will last and look cool. Mike
