Al,
Por-15 makes an excellent kit to clean and seal gas tanks. Used it on my antique jaguar. Awesome results. Hope it helps- Top

Eastwood sells a kit too. The instructions have you go through a few steps. At least one of the cleaning steps is with locally sourced lacquer thinner. The Eastwood kit contains other chemicals for cleaning, converting rust, and coating the tank interior. Another cleaning step they use is with water.- Top

Al,
Laquer thinner or MEK works good and in some ugly situations liquid carb cleaner. You can pour a gallon in and it will cut the varnish.
All have to be slushed around and the carb cleaner needs to be washed out with a good soap like Purple Power.
The thinners are about $18.00 and work great.

Thanks Dom, I'll try the thinner as I have almost a full gallon laying around. There is not that much accumulation in the tank, as it was installed just to make a couple test runs on back in the early 90s to see what worked and what didn't.- Top
