Guys, need a little help locating an A6 compressor for my Feb 67 car. Original owner stated the original compressor was replaced under warranty so the date is too late ( it's March 67 date). I was hoping 1 of our members might have one for sale or trade that would be correct ( or know of a source to obtain one). Rebuilt or needing rebuilding would be ok. Many thanks!!

Re: C2 Air Conditioner A6 Compressor
Al, there is a fellow TDB board member that posts here named Domenic Tallirita, send him a PM he maybe able to help as he rebuilts A/C compressors. I am not sure if the 67 rear plates were like the C3 A-6 compressors but with the A/C hoses and manifold installed you cannot read the date. the C3 cars have a label with a date code and part no. which is maybe what you'll need also.Last edited by Edward J.; December 11, 2011, 11:17 AM.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: C2 Air Conditioner A6 Compressor
Al - Is the warrantee replacement compressor just a GM A6 compressor or is it a "correct" 67 Corvette Model No. 5910645 A6 compressor with a later production CODE No.? If you have a "correct" 67 Corvette A6 compressor but with a later production CODE NO. on the "FRIGIDAIRE" foil label, if it were mine, I'd keep it and take the deduction which should be small if at all because is it a "correct" later replacement in all ways except for the date of the CODE NO. Furthermore, although the MODEL No. 5910654 A6 compressors are not impossible to find their use was limited to the 1967 and 1968 Production time frame and they were not used on C60 systems on large volume Production vehicles like Chevrolet and Chevelles. Re: C2 Air Conditioner A6 Compressor
Hey Peter, just got back in. the compressor end plate has a date code of C137 and a #6555302 stamped into it. I removed what was left of the foil tag when i dis-assembled the car back in the early 90s. It's somewhere as nothing was discarded. And of course it has the OK Final Inspection stamp on the main body- Top

Re: C2 Air Conditioner A6 Compressor
Al - The compressor end plate number 6555302 is common to many A6 compressors so it is not a unique Corvette part. The embossed production number of C137 would be March 13 of probably 1967 if the compressor was changed under the GM New Vehicle Warranty which was 24 months or 24,000 miles, whichever event shall first occur. There usually is another alpha numeric sequence stamped under the 6555302 that has the format R# or R##.
If you can find the foil label that will tell you if the compressor was a Corvette compressor because as you might guess all Frigidaire A6 compressor manufactured in that time frame looked alike and the only differences between the one used on the 67 Corvette and the 67 Chevrolet and other 67 vehicles was the amount of the Freon charge and that was dictated by the size of the AC system and the MODEL NO. on foil label on the compressor. The Corvette used 3.00 LB of Freon and the Chevrolet Passenger car used 3.75 LB of Freon and the Corvette compressor MODEL NO. was 5910645 and the Chevrolet compressor was MODEL NO. 6550133.

Re: C2 Air Conditioner A6 Compressor
Hi Pete --- would the warranty service replacement with the proper Corvette part # on the foil label automatically include the inboard clocking position of the terminals on the clutch coil ? Or was this a "pulley and coil transfer" from the replaced unit ?- Top

Re: C2 Air Conditioner A6 Compressor
Wayne - OK because inquiring minds want to know; here's what I found in my parts department.
A NOS 5910645 Compressor Assembly in a box with a mailing label
FROM -
General Motors Parts Division
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
TO-
Wilkerson Chev Inc 71003
Tuis, Okla
The box also had in large ink stamped characters on one side
5910645
987103
The compressor unit has the identical configuration FRIGIDAIRE foil label as the compressor unit on our September 1966 built 67 sb Corvette with the exception of the CODE NO. The compressor unit includes the clutch coil and pulley already installed and the clocking position of the terminals on the clutch coil is identical to the unit on our Corvette. So, it was ready to go out of the box.
Based on this example, my conclusion is that a Dealer could have obtained an exact compressor unit with the exception of specific items that required related Production date information from the General Motors Parts Division for Warranty Service work.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
BTW, I hope you're stay warm up there. We're getting some snow again, got 6-8" last week with more at the higher elevations. I'm thinking of getting the chains out and installing them on the Corvette for some fun. I used to do that with my 68 Chevelle in the old days and I could go about anywhere. GR8 FUN.
