    C2 carb dating question

On my 67 1 owner, I'm about to send the carb out to be restored. The original owner stated the carb had never been rebuilt or replaced, however, I not sure after checking for a date code on it. The car is a mid Feb 67 build with the following #s stamped in it 3906631-DA List-3810 3506 in vertical order Can someone decipher this for me ? I didn't see anything in the judging manual for the 4 digit date code. Also, if incorrect date code what can I expect for a point deduction. I might also add that the car is a base engine with powerglide. Thanks!

Al, Holley changed the date code format from three digits to four after 1972.
I would say that indisputably, the carb is in fact a service replacement. Possibly original owner has forgotten a few events from 40 years ago. Heck, I can't remember what happened in October!

I won't specualte as to the exact dating as there is some disagreement at times within the hobby on decoding four digit date codes.
I will state that I have never, ever seen an assembly-line original 1967 Corvette Holley carburetor with such a four digit date code. I have handled several dozen of them.

I'm certain someone with judging experience will step forward on point considerations.

Thanks Ridge, that's what I was afraid of. I will still probably still go with it for a while. Money's getting tight at this point.

Al - I agree with Ridge. On original 66 & 67 Holley 3810 carbs the production date format would have been a 3 character format with the 1st character being the last digit of the Production year, e.g., 6 or 7; the 2nd character being the Production month with 1 thru 0 being January thru October and A and B being November and December; and the 3rd character being the Production week of the month, e.g., 1 thru 5. Al,

After 1972 when they went to the 4 digit code, the year was the last number preceded by the day of the year numerically. So your carb could be a service replacement or over the counter, from 1976, 1986, or maybe even 1996. The date code started over every ten years.

If it has slotted bowl screws and slotted screws in some locations on the body that look original to the carb, it is probably 1976.

I think the date would cost 20% on originality in the CDCIF originality judging.

Thanks Gerard, it would most likely be 1976 as the last year it was driven per the NC inspection sticker & license plate was 1983 and I've owned it since 1988- 89 (?).

              Al,

Perfect for a mid February car would be a date code of 721, acceptable with no date deduct would be 6 months back, 683 or later.
