Was there a 50th Anniversary Corvette?

I was paging through the Danbury Mint Corvette catalog section and spotted a Limited 50th Anniversary Edition 1961 Jewel Blue fuelie with Ermine White coves. I never heard of this, does anyone have any insight?

Wasn't the Chevy that was introduced in Nov'11 called a '12 Model making the '62 models the 50th anniversary? There was an Anniversary Gold exterior paint offered for the passenger cars in '62.

Hi Bill,

2011 was the 50th anniversary of the 1961 Corvette, so the Danbury Mint issued a slightly upgraded limited edition diecast. If they continue with this trend, there'll likely be a 50th anniversary of the 1962 in 2012, one for the 1963 in 2013, and so on. Like with re-released re-remastered CDs and DVDs every few years, they hope to reel in the collectors.

It wold make sense for the 50th Chevy anniversary to be in 1962, and Anniversary Gold was a popular color for those type cars, I have a 50th Anniversary Gold 1964 Dodge Polara 500, with a 426 street wedge.

the first year i remember AG on a chevy was 1958 impala and that is what i remembered when i wanted it on my 62 corvette
