What if the engine was changed still under warranty? 64 C2

What is the best way to get a engine as close as possible to the original?

    A blank engine pad?
If you have a 64 C2 and the engine was replaced when the car still was under warranty what kind of markings would it be on the engine stamp?
I know that the dealers was supposed to stamp the pad but i am sure that many did not.

Or to go for a engine block with the right dates and suffix but with the wrong stamp?

    Claus,
I have a 1967 that has a late 67, early 68 block in it with CE851463 on the pad. It is a 427 and don't know when they started with the CE blocks.

I'm sure your question will get a answer here.

I am pretty sure the CE & CT (for transmissions) started in Model Year 1968, but John Hinckley will confirm or refute that.

Rarely, you also see "CC" for an empty transmission case assy (housing + fill & drain plugs), with the same 35K-40K sequential numbering.

          Terry,

The rest of my #s on my CE block are, H 15 7 with a 3916321 casting.

            Roger -

The '64 didn't have much of a warranty (the 5/50 powertrain warranty didn't start until 1967); if the engine failed while under warranty, chances are it would have been replaced with a Service short block (with a blank pad) with the bolt-on parts transferred from the failed engine. It may or may not have had the same block casting number (3782870) as the original.

I've seen a "CE" stamped block with a 1962 casting date on it.

Claus what is the engine block date? If it is before your 64 was built and all that you want to change to get it to "original" factory to dealer delivery is an engine block with the wrong VIN and correct block casting date, NCRS judging will only deduct points for the stamp pad on your current block.

                  Sure it wasn't '72?

The "CE" program didn't start until 1968; what you saw was more likely a 1972 casting date.

                          Michael,

Warranty short blocks/partial engines through at least 1967 were the exact same, and same part number, as one sold to the general public in service. There would have been no stamping on the pad at all.

Complete engine assy's for warranty or service would have have had the source code/date stamp though.

What i really need for my 1964 coupe is a 3782870 engine block with a RR suffix casted i August, September or November and perhaps the first 2 days of December since my car have a tag that says December fifth 1963

I just read about a 1963 Corvette mentioned here with both the VIN show and engine pad shown.

                              This is what it says:
                              1963 Corvette coupe

                              VIN: 30837S114931
                              Stamp on engine pad:3114931
                              Engine pad
                              PAD: 3114931F0425RF

Why is the S in the VIN a digit 3 on the engine stamp?
