1960 Hardtop stainless end cap

I need to install the two end caps for the arcuate-shaped s/s trim pieces (see photo). I believe I read somewhere that there were brazed on to the s/s trim piece. Is that correct?

Were they tacked or brazed all the way around?

Mine came loose and fell off. Adhesive maybe?

According to Larry at The Hard Top Shop, they were silver soldered with cheap solder that did not stay in place long. The Hard Top Shop uses an acetylene torch with a solder tip. I spent an hour trying to find someone to do the soldering and could not. No one would touch the job due to the thin metal. Larry stated that brazing was too hot. As thin as the s/s trim pieces are, I don't see how the metal will not end up blue colored, but maybe it is easy to buff the blue color off and back to shiny s/s.

I still have one of the original fillers and it has some goo on one side. I assume it was "glued" in place based on that.

Anyway, I would bond it in place if I were going to replace it. Both of the exterior corners on my top are loose. I may try to bond those in place too.

Try JB weld.
Clean both parts, tape the filler in place and apply JB on the inside.
Great stuff.
