    Kissimmee Regionals

I'm relatively new member of NCRS and am restoring a 1960 that I hope to have judged.

I've never been to any judging events, but would like to see the process and participate some how.

Is it possible to sign on as an observer at the Regional meet? If so, how do I go about it? Or, is there some way to be close enough to see and hear what the judges are doing?

    Thanks,
    Don Harris

Don, the Florida Regional will be an excellent event for you to view the judging process. You can view what is going on from a few feet away.

When you register for the event I believe there is a place to sign-up as an OJ. Several folks do sign-up but the spots go quickly in the C1 area.

Check the NCRS store for publications that will assist you. You can also purchase them at the Florida Regional.

    See ya there!

I'm looking at the registration form under Judging Teams. To sign up as a Observer do I sign up there? If that is the case, then was I do put in the Judging Level space since I'm a Newbie?

      Thanks,

Yes you can check the box for OJ judging on your registration sheet. But at the meet check with the team leader on what area you would like to judge on and if it is available he is Tim Mickey. For the judging level since this is your first time it would be 0.0 as you gain judging points if you had say 5 judging points it would be shown as 0.5 and 50 points would be shown as 5.0 etc. You can also email Tim if you go to the NCRS home page go to contacts and all the Officers, Team Leaders and Chapters are listed with email contact information and web sites.

Do I need a rental car?

This will be my first regional meet and I have made reservation for flight and hotel to attend the Kissimmee regional. I am staying at the Seralago Hotel. Do I need a rental car?

Looking at the maps, it looks like the meet area is close to the hotel and within walking distance and there seem to be a lot of places to eat within walking distance.

          Thanks,

          Don

            Don,

To OJ be at the cars at 730AM. Find Tim Mickey the Team Leader and volunteer to be an OJ. The Team Leader will assign you to a Team. OJ's often are the Judging Team "scribes" - entering the Judges comments, etc. on the score sheets.

            You'll enjoy the Winter Regional.

Rental car is probably more trouble that it's worth. The walk from the Seralago is probably 5 minutes if you cut through the KFC and Red Lobster parking lots.

                  Don,

Don't even consider renting a car to go from the Saralago to the swap meet or judging area. It's probably only three city blocks or less than a country mile.
If you want, you can ride with us every morning to the swap area. We're staying at the Saralago also.
As far a restaurants, you can eat at a different one every meal. We usually eat across the street at Denny's for breakfast.
You're gonna love the NCRS Florida meet! Largest swap meet of any NCRS meet all year and probably the second largest in the country. Certainly larger than Bloomington is today! Maybe I should have said Bloomington was as it is a has been!

One other item on Thursday at 4PM there is a judging school usually above the A&W meeting room. If you attend and sign up on the attendance sheet with your name and NCRS number you will be awarded 1 judging point. There will be an overview of the meets details do's and dont's while judging also Roy Sinor will also inform the judges of any new policies and changes that have occur-ed. Then a short period of question and answers.

A&W is no more, IIRC it's the Big Kahuna's Dogs & Root Beer - #326 on the map
Shop local in Kissimmee at Old Town and find the perfect accessory for your outfit or a souvenir that captures the spirit of your favorite decade. With an eclectic mix of shops catering to all tastes and budgets, you're sure to leave with something special!

                          Joe,

I'm taking my family along with me and we are staying on the Disney property so I've rented a car to get back and forth. From what you've just said there is limited parking in the area where the NCRS meet is being held. Any suggestions as to where park or should i just take a cab? I planned to bring the family to the meet since I've registered all of us.

                          Thanks,

                          James West

                            James,

I will assume that the family is going to be taking in Disney while you are at the NCRS meet.

There is plenty of parking places even if you have to park across the street.

Would not do the taxi cause the fare will add up if you attend the NCRS meet every day. And you might want to purchase a few things to update your Corvette.

                              Joe,

Yes they will be spending a lot of time with the head mouse that week but I do plan to have them come over with me possibly on Friday and or Saturday to see the judging process and walk through the swap meet. My son is getting to the age that he's started being my tool caddy in the shop when I'm working on the C2's I own. I hoping to take him with me next year to a regional meet in Minnesota if his attention span improves, he's all about hands-on stuff but not about just watching. We are taking the kids out of school for te trip but they won't know they are going to Florida (Disney) until my wife picks me up from work on the way to the airport on Monday afternoon.

Thanks for the information on the parking.

                              Best Regards,
